Northrop Grumman’s Aeronautics Systems sector is seeking a Principal Environmental Qualification Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals in defining the future. This position will be located in Melbourne, FL.

The selected individual will perform within an interdisciplinary team to develop novel and innovative solutions to advanced technical problems. 

The candidate will be responsible to the Environmental Qualification Engineering Lead and Specialty Engineering Manager and work with other IPTs to successfully implement requirements, design and verification necessary to achieve successful system equipment qualification. 

 The candidate will be responsible for: 

  • The Principal Environmental Qualification (EQ) Engineer is expected to be a highly motivated self-starter with an ability to operate/communicate effectively with leadership, customer, suppliers, engineers, and technicians.

  • Expect to write/draft, interpret, allocate, tailor, and flow down requirements to all design levels.

  • Expect to present during design reviews to internal and external customers regarding EQ issues.

  • Expect to author design guidelines, review test procedures, test reports, technical analyses, participate in cross discipline design reviews, develop models and perform analyses on components, subsystems, and systems in accordance with governmental and non-governmental standards, for example MIL-STD-810 and DO-160 and travel to supplier sites to guide/witness tests.

Basic Qualifications:

Principal Environmental Engineer (T03):

  • Must have a Bachelor’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university AND 5 years of related professional/military experience in Engineering; OR a Master’s degree in a STEM discipline from an accredited university AND 3 years of related professional/military experience in Engineering; or a Ph.D. AND 1 years of related professional/military experience in Engineering.

  • Your ability to transfer and maintain the final adjudicated government Secret clearance, and any program access(es) required for the position within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company.

  • Experience designing, developing, integrating, and/or testing military and/or commercial avionics or mission systems for environmental qualification

  • Experience in decomposing, deriving, allocating and tracing requirements from system to component level

  • Experience engaging directly with internal and external technical and programmatic representatives

Preferred Qualifications:

  • In-depth knowledge of governing standards such as MIL-STD-810 and RTCA DO-160.

  • Experience with airborne systems thermal and/or vibration analysis and related software such as ANSYS, Flotherm, FEMAP, etc.

  • Experience designing avionics from an electro-mechanical perspective, including understanding of packaging and interconnects.

  • Familiarity with overall integration of all aircraft systems.

  • Experience in supplier/subcontract management

  • Experience with developing supplier documentation, performance-based specifications, and statements of work

  • Experience building supplier evaluation criteria and experience in conducting technical evaluations, documenting results and selection

  • Ability to review documents from the supplier’s development effort and support supplier technical interchange meetings and design review

Salary Range: $95,300 - $142,900
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
