We are seeking an experienced Senior Motorsports Engineer to join our winning team and become part of our motorsports family.
The Senior Motorsports Engineer is responsible for Engineering related technical planning, preparations and execution during testing, demo/exhibition and race events. The Senior Motorsports Engineer manages our team of engineers as necessary through direction provided by the Technical Director, plans and executes technical strategy during test days and race events targeting increased performance and reliability. The Senior Motorsports Engineer reports directly to the Technical Director.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Responsible for Engineers/Engineering Teams as assigned
Responsible for Project Management as assigned
Strong ability to lead a technical team on a given project
Duties/Responsibilities:
Preparation of the car in the workshop including re-prep; car setup; communicating with other departments such as composites, fabrication, paint, tires.
Coordinate with the Production Manager to manage requests and workload. Follow up actions from previous outings.
Strong ability to diagnose any issues on a professional level race car (electronic, mechanical, powertrain)
Oversee shakedown and commissioning prior to event. Decide and execute changes as necessary to technical teams.
Ability to improve chassis setup based on driver’s comments and data analysis.
Manage the race day organization with the race engineer and lead technicians.
Interact with scrutineers, race officials and other teams in a professional manner.
Record outing data. Prepare event summary technical report.
Create engineering reports for Senior Management as required.
Train the Race Engineer and Technicians on proper techniques as needed.
Monitor car, truck and workshop parts inventory and request restocking as required within budget constraints.
Advise when updates or testing is required. Prepare a test plan, record session data and prepare summary reports.
Comply with health, safety (including OSHA), and environmental procedures, and ensure the cleanliness of the work area.
Other duties as needed to support VSC's various racing programs.
Education and Experience:
BS or greater in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or similar is preferred
At least 5 years of high level motorsport experience with a professional race team
Electric vehicle experience is a plus
Required Skills/Abilities:
Strong mechanical aptitude
Proven ability to multi-task and work comfortably in a fast-paced, often-changing environment including excellent organizational skills with a high degree of initiative and flexibility
Proven ability to be a team player with high integrity is a must
Excellent time management skills
Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, etc.) or related software
Proven ability to safely set up and/or operate hand and machine tools in challenging environments
Reliability and punctuality are strongly desired for the success of this role
Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this position, individuals may frequently be required to stand, walk or sit for extended periods of time; use hands and fingers to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; regularly required to talk and hear
The individual must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds
Specific vision requirements for this position include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus as required.
